An initialism for Financial Fair Play. Introduced by UEFA as a way to prevent clubs spending beyond their means. The basic idea: you can't spend more than you earn, with some allowances for infrastructure and youth investment. Clubs that break the rules can face fines, transfer bans, or even exclusion from European competitions. Manchester City and PSG have both been investigated, though the punishments rarely seem to stick. UEFA replaced FFP with new "Financial Sustainability" rules in 2022, but people still call it FFP.

Internet slang for a player or team that's supposedly washed up, past it, or declining. Gets thrown around constantly and almost never ages well - fans called Ronaldo "finished" after a bad game in 2008 and he played at the top for another 15 years. The term is both a genuine assessment and a way to wind people up. Messi and Ronaldo have both been declared finished about 500 times.

How a player controls the ball when they receive it. A good first touch sets up the next action - it kills the ball dead, or pushes it into space, or opens your body for a pass or shot. A bad first touch wastes chances and kills attacks. You can judge a player's technical level instantly from how they receive the ball. It's the foundation skill that separates levels.

Glancing the ball with your head or foot to redirect it rather than controlling it, usually from a long ball or cross. A striker flicks on a goal kick to a runner behind them; a midfielder flicks a pass around a corner. Flick-ons require delicate touch and good awareness of where your teammates are. They keep the ball moving quickly and catch defenders by surprise.

Internet term for a player or manager who's supposedly overrated and not as good as their reputation suggests. Can be affectionate ("bald fraud" for Guardiola when City lose) or genuinely hostile. The accusation is that they've tricked everyone into thinking they're better than they are. Applied to pretty much every successful figure after a bad result.
